New Video for "Love You Better" by Family Video
Family Video is a project from the from St. John’s singer/songwriter Jen King. I remember first seeing Jen on the local scene back when I first started playing gigs downtown back in 2004 or 2005(?) when my band The Bookburners (I really didn’t think it was a problematic name at the time) played some gigs with Triceratop, a female lead power pop indie band I adored which Jen played in. Triceratop didn’t last too long but Jen has stuck around quietly amassing an impressive body of work under a few different names. Jen contacted me awhile back about collaborating on a music video for “Love You Better” off her new Family Video album Forever Changes Overnight and of course I said of course! The song has a bright and lovely nostalgic feel to it, I felt I needed to go all in on the nostalgia sentiment and use bright colours and the naïve movements of children at play while trying to advance my degenerative re-animation technique I’ve used in other videos like on Lo Siento’s and Sad Tax’s, this time in a more abstract and painterly way with a lot of negative space used. I think the end result was pretty effective, although to be honest it was bit more rushed than I would’ve liked, anyway, enjoy the video and support Jen’s work if you get a chance.
